ABB recently completed construction of a waste water plant at its High Voltage and Distribution Solutions factories in BacNinh Province. With the deployment of ABB’s own pioneering technologies, the waste water plant was recently commissioned and is successfully ensuring minimal impact to the surrounding environment.
The plant will run on power generated from the solar photovoltaic panel installed on the rooftop and monitoring of energy usage will help ABB save energy, support peak hour demand and reduce dependence on the grid. These solutions deliver real benefits of up to 40% reduction in installation time, 50% less maintenance costs and reduction in outage times by half.
The plant is equipped with ABB’s integrated control and instrumentation package designed for waste water and power management, an automation control and measurement system and SCADA. The instrumentation package includes electromagnetic flow meters, level transmitters and continuous water analyzers.

Brian Hull, Country Managing Director of ABB in Vietnam, said, "ABB’s technologies have been deployed for efficient and effective operation of water and wastewater treatment plants around the world. So it's only natural that we leverage our own expertise for our factories to ensure we make the most of every drop. The environmental pressures due to growing urbanization in Vietnam requires resource-efficient solutions and this new wastewater treatment plant signifies a small but crucial step towards supporting the environment in a sustainable and safe way."
Controlling and optimizing all the processes is the ABB Zenon SCADA, which extends automation solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things. An open HMI and Operations Data Management system, it gives deep insights into production processes and allows quality assurance, production optimization and online reporting.
Connecting all instruments and monitors, via touch screen and computers is the AC500 Controller, helping to automatically control the water treatment process including valves, level, and flow to smoothly harmonize the plant.
Thanks to this structure, engineers can remotely monitor and control the whole system from their smart phone app or a personal computer. This automation solution can also be deployed in a wide range of industries and applications including water, waste water, building infrastructure, data centers, renewable energy, and others.
The installed technologies have delivered remarkable results, at least 50% below the maximum acceptable limit set by the Vietnamese government for the quality of water treated and released as effluent.
