Clean TeQ Water awarded water recovery contract in Middle East

Clean TeQ Water (CNQ) has been awarded a contract to treat bore water used for enhanced oil recovery in the Middle East.

The contract involves the design, procurement, delivery and installation of a high recovery reverse osmosis (HIROX) plant - the first of its kind in the Middle East.

The contract counterparty is National Energy Services Reunited Corp (NESR), Clean TeQ’s strategic partner for the oil and gas sector in the Middle East. NESR will be the owner and operator of the installation, while the end-user of the treated water will be one of the big four oil companies.

The contract is valued at around $3 million, with the plant expected to produce roughly 1,200 tonnes per day of treated water.

Clean TeQ says its HIROX solution allows for ultra-high recovery of water with minimum waste. The treatment aims to reduce sulphate in bore water to prevent scaling when the water is used for reinjection.

According to Clean TeQ, the HIROX solution will achieve more than 90 per cent water recovery compared to around 30 per cent recovery by traditional solutions. The company says this is a more efficient use of scarce bore water resources, with a 60 per cent reduction of water withdrawn from the bore and an 80 per cent reduction of liquid waste.

The plant will also reuse the recovered salt, instead of adding imported salt, to achieve the targeted water density.

CEO of Clean TeQ Water Willem Vriesendorp commented on the process.

“Our HIROX process is one of our world-leading treatment technologies that will ensure Clean TeQ Water can compete with the world’s best water treatment companies,” Mr Vriesendorp said.

 Once completed, NESR and Clean TeQ will promote the use of this technology across the oil and gas sector, where there is substantial demand for water conservation and reuse.
