Recovery of Valuable Products from Reject Brines of Seawater Desalination Plants
Published on by Oswald Eppers, Business Development Representative at K-UTEC AG Salt Technologies in Technology
This paper presents a new approach to sustainable seawater desalination that optimally utilizes waste brine for producing valuable salts and other downstream products like green hydrogen or carbon-neutral ammonia and methanol, while avoiding negative environmental impacts on marine ecosystems. This approach in particular is feasible in South Americas arid pacific coast, where solar energy can be used effectively for brine concentration in open evaporation ponds and for photovoltaic energy generation.
