UCT Students Develop Device To Collect Shower Water For Reuse

A group of UCT students have come up with a new way of collecting shower water for reuse.

One of the earliest water saving tips to residents was to put a bucket in the shower to collect water, but this can be cumbersome.

So, the students came up with a device that consists of four square containers that interlock to form a platform in the shower and the falling water is trapped in those containers.

Director of Shower Savvy, Emma Sham, says they were inspired by solutions elsewhere in the world.

“We found there are existing solutions and there are better ways to do it. We adapted those findings to design a better alternative and the shower. That is how we came about it at Shower Savvy.”

You can't buy the product just yet, but the young inventors are hoping to get their creation to market by February next year.

The UCT students design is not yet in production. Here is an example of a system that has been implemented overseas called the Gris Water system, though Sham says their version will be somewhat different
