Shortage of water and solutions

Most of the people are now talking about water. Actually the water problem is very simple to understand. The development activities  (particularly by the governments) have very dangerously, adversely affected and damaged the natural water resources channels and reservoirs.

Mining and construction activities have heavily damaged the water resources. The solution is also very simple, which is to stop exponential growth of human population and to reduce use of water in agriculture activities. The nations having too less young population, may like to attract young people for their requirements from nations, which have lot of young people.

We have to think for new ways to reduce population, population density and use of water in agriculture. The rich and mighty people on earth are also responsible in a big way for wastage  of precious water and water resource, who need to be curbed by national / international laws with provisions of snatching their wealth by the Government and put them in prison for number of years.

Every construction and obstruction activity in flood plain areas causing hindrance in free flow of water, should be removed and person  / ministers/ politicians/ government officials responsible for it should be put in prison for several years in addition to financial punishment

  1. I don’t think that idea to reduce use of water in agriculture and stop the human population growth are the best solution to overcome the water crisis. To meet the water irrigation needs I thought it is already adjusted and calculated by the water requirements of plants that is represented by channels dimension, pipe and related irrigation infrastructures. So, decreasing the amount of irrigation water will induce a harvest failure, surely.

The opinion to recycle of waste water and reforestation are good solution to solve the water problems, considering the function of forest is conservation of water itself.

  2. There is a policy matter with the use of potable water and the Indian government needs to get the policy right. In actuality there is no problem of water stress or shortage. India produces 67 billion liters of wastewater per day that is actually discharged into drains, rivers without proper treatment.

The largest consumption of water in any country is towards agriculture and therefore we need to learn from countries like Israel. Israel treats and recycles wastewater, it treats and recycles 95% of the wastewater it produces and uses it in agriculture. Sewage wastewater if treated for pathogen and heavy metal removal can be used in agriculture. The nutrients from human waste in the form of nitrates and phosphates would act as direct fertilizer to the fields that have either agriculture or horticulture produce planted. Therefore in  reality the farmer does not need to add additional fertilizer to his field. This saves money for the farmer. Recycled wastewater is used in agriculture, there is an assured supply of water for irrigation purposes, so we do not have to be highly dependent on the monsoon. This also saves potable water that can be used for drinking and cooking purposes only. Industrial wastewater likewise can be treated and recycled for reuse into industries. This is an ideal way to eradicate stress over water and we would have a win-win situation.
