The cycle of shame is the process taking place across of Asia all too often. Ineffective plastic recycling and recycling in general has led to serious clogging and pollution of waterways and the ocean. Jakarta is a prime example of poor recycling and waste management resulting in increasingly dirty and unhealthy waterways, which eventually flood into the oceans. It has become more than self evident that ocean protection is not just related to ocean pollution or dumping into the seas. Rather ocean protection requires effective and comprehensive cooperation between all environmental NGOs to try and push recycling more and an expansion of waste management to prevent the destruction of sea life and coral reefs. Even if the only appeal is to keep tourist sites open and clean, it would do far more good than doing nothing at all. I recommend you read this article as it sheds a lot of light on the current ocean pollution situation. Read more here
