Water is vital to life of all forms of the Earth. Pressures on water resources intensify
everyday with the growth of the population. This has inevitably lead to depletion of water
resources and scarcity of water.
The challenge of the present time is that of skilful but people oriented management. If life
on earth has to survive we have to learn to respect nature, conserve water by wise use,
adopt rain water harvesting and water recycling methods, initiate water conservation
awareness in society, learn to reuse and recycle water, prevent & check water wastage and
monitor water conservation.
The health and prosperity of nations depend on a very large measure not merely
upon the quantity but also quality of water available for use. Water Literacy is the need of
the hour. Man has to learn to live in balance with water to sustain life on the planet Earth.
We all wish to have a clean environment but very few of us are aware and much less
feel genuinely concerned about it. Most of us dismiss the concern about it, thinking that we
are neither environmentalist nor have any position to contribute towards saving the fast
degrading environment. We must remember Julia Carney's immortal lines from her
poem, Little Things
Little drops of water, little grains of sand make the mighty ocean and the pleasant Land.
My special thanks and blessings to all the contributors –Staff and Students of the
Vidyalaya for their valuable contribution in publishing the online Magazine on Water
Literacy and most importantly the appreciable work done towards water conservation in
the school campus and mass awareness programmes undertaken in community towards
this noble mission of Save Water the Elixir of Life.
