$12 million to Improve a WTP

The City of Bismarck has spent months making upgrades to the plant in hopes of making the water better

Brian Young is Bismarck's Water Plant Superintendent, and he's checking to make sure all the new systems implemented at the plant are working properly.

The City of Bismarck spent just over $12 million on this project and say it was needed due to the population increase.

The new technology implemented will allow the plant to process more water from the Missouri River before it is sent to the customer. Young says all the new equipment updates will allow them to be ready if the population increases more.

"We also need to prepare not only for today, but we also need to prepare for the future and we need to make sure we're set and poised to handle anything that the public could send to us as forms of demand," says Young.

The advancements will overall make the plant more efficient. Costs associated with the infrastructure improvement are spread over time to users who benefit from the improvements. Rate structures are reviewed annually by the City’s Budget Committee.

July 20, the plant set a new daily record for the year as it pumped just over 22 million gallons of water in one day.
