First with enforcement of Iowa's 16 drainage laws and the Clean Water Act's Anti-Degradation Laws, we should be stopping the Point Source polluting done by some farmers. Some farmers use illegal or tile and surface Drainage Outlets, like ditches or flood channels built to drain their Wetland down sinkholes into our Source Water/Aquifers for our wells. Others illegally install French drains or illegal AG drainage wells to drain low areas just so they can plant sooner and to prevent some reduced yields for acres with no legal tile drainage outlets. This polluting is increasing with no filtering of the CAFO and Anhydrous Ammonia Nitrogen fertilizers that the cities are having to spend increasing amounts to try to make their water safe Downstream from those farmers.
