Water Filter That Removes Chromium-6 from Tap Water

Aquasana OptimH20 removes 97% of Cromium-6, a cancerogenic substance found in the drinking water of 218 million Americans.

aq-5300.55_360a.jpgAlso known as hexavalent chromium, chromium-6 is the same cancer-causing heavy metal made famous in the movie Erin Brockovich.

The Aquasana OptimH20 RO system is NSF-certified to remove over 97% of chromium-6 from drinking water.

A safety limit for chromium-6 in drinking water has not been established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and like lead, exposure is potentially dangerous at any level, especially in children and pregnant women.

Until more is known, the easiest and most immediate solution for safe drinking water and peace of mind is to use a water filter.

However, not all filters remove chromium-6. The only way to effectively remove the carcinogen is through reverse osmosis.

The Aquasana OptimH2O uses innovative RO, carbon filtration and remineralization technology to remove more than 80 different contaminants – including over 97% of chromium-6 and 99% of lead; then puts back healthy minerals removed in the RO process like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

"Whether we're talking about the concerning lead poisoning in Flint, Mich., PFOA (Teflon) or now chromium-6, this is a larger issue that has been building for years and affects the nation as a whole," said Todd Bartee, the CEO of Aquasana and a trained environmental engineer specializing in water treatment.

"As our water infrastructure continues to deteriorate, we're going to see an increase in these types of water safety issues across the country.

We want families to know that there are straight-forward and immediate steps they can take to be proactive in protecting their health, and the most effective way to improve their drinking water is by using an NSF-certified water filter."

Aquasana's other drinking water filters are NSF-certified to remove more than 99 percent of lead as well as 65 other contaminants – including asbestos, pharmaceuticals, chloramines, herbicides, pesticides, industrial solvents, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and mercury – and are available in countertop and undersink options that make clean, healthy water accessible to everyone.

  1. You are wrong to say that EPA has not regulated Cr+6. That is a myth that started with California's regulation. The EPA's  total chromium regulation is 100 ppb and EPA states that it could all be Cr+6, so Cr +6 is regulated. In fact it was originally regulated in the US Public Health Service standards of 1946 with the  same statement. Why would you want to remove Chromium +6 from drinking water? Perhaps you watched Erin Brokovich and believed it,  Cr +6 is readily reduced to Cr+3 when ingested. Cr +3 is considered to be an essential nutrient. Some people take Cr+3 supplements. There is data demonstrating that there is a safe level significantly above California's 10 ppb standard, One of these days California will have to accept that new data and raise its standard. That could be embarrassing for them since they forced a lot of communities to spend a lot of money to remove it.
