About

Applying his Risk-managed Marketing™ business development skills, Mermell has directed Advanced Resilient Technology (ART) to create a commercial enterprise based on the transformation of organic waste into multiple valuable resources, including electricity, heating/cooling, and Biochar, which is used to help manage and clean water. In 2014, he presented a keynote talk, “Commercialization of Biochar,” in Scotland for the EU COST Action TD1107, and thereafter was appointed co-chair of Working Group 3 of the COST Action on Biochar. Working Group 3 has been tasked with enabling commercial implementation of intelligent-material flow management systems, which convert organic waste into Biochar. Mermell earned a certificate in Biochar Training for Environmental Sustainability and Economic Development at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain, under the auspices of the International Biochar Initiative, the UK Biochar Centre, Fraunhofer UMSICHT, and Massey University. He holds an MBA in marketing management and in the late 70s served as a student adjunct in the Wharton-Recanati Program.
