  1. The title "8 Mighty Rivers Run Dry From Overuse" is interesting and confusing. It is true that so many rivers run dry, but do not agree that in all cases it is the "overuse". It seems a general remark of a newspaper reporter, not of any scientist or eminent engineer. The rivers are , it is true. But why ?. Whether in case of every river, diagnostic analysis based on rainfall has been done ? If there can not be any reason other than overuse to make a river run dry ? It is also true that even after normal rainfall dam reservoirs are dry ? Why ? All these conditions need scientific analysis and also need remedial measures to make rivers to run with normal discharge and dams to fill .

    1. Riverbed of a river is the lowest point of that area . After monsoon, a perennial river (flowing all 12 months) used to get supply of underground water from both side of the banks. Rivers are running dry, due to over-extraction of groundwater from sideby areas & water table has depleted much below riverbeds & riverbeds are not supplied with groundwater. Moreover barrages or dams have been built on riverbeds which hinders the flow of stream. So to revive these dead rivers we need to recharge ample rainwater underground during monsoon, on lands, along bothsides of the river ( upto 2 km distance from banks) . This will increase soil-moisture of farm land ( thus decrease extraction of groundwater for irrigation) & also increase groundwater table. During course of time - after 7-8 years -when groundwater table will rise more then riverbed, this excess underground water from land on both sides of the river, will keep on flowing in riverbeds & help to keep the streams flowing for longer periods ( even between 2 dams on a river) . 2. I have an innovative idea titled as '' THE CONCEPT OF LARGE WATER TANKS IN THE RIVER BED ". Probably it will solve the problem of water shortage and DROUGHT. The concept is written and runs into five pages. I do not know how to upload it for debate by experts / technologists.
