All these people need to be kept warm and cool and they need to eat and have electricity. A lot of natural gas is combusted to meet all these needs in commercial buildings and by industry and at the electricity producing power plants. In every 1 million Btu's of natural gas that is combusted are 5 gallons of recoverable distilled water, and this water is very useable. To get at this water the heat energy has to be removed/ recovered with the technology of Condensing Flue Gas Heat Recovery. Instead of blowing all this heat energy into the atmosphere, it can be utilized back in the building or facility or used for another purpose. Being vented into the atmosphere will be cool exhaust. For every 1 million Btu's of heat energy that is recovered from the combusted exhaust and is utilized, 117 lbs of CO2 will not be put into the atmosphere. This adds up to be big numbers real quick. The IEA this summer produced a report that stated that if a coal fired power plant was to recover just 20% of the water from it's combusted coal exhaust, it could be self sustaining. If it recovered more it could become a water supplier to the local community. Water conservation is good, but we also have to look at water creation when possible.
