AFRICA: Countries allocate $700 million for water and sanitation

Three East African countries have allocated in excess of $700 million for the water and sanitation sector over the next year.
The allocations by Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda are part of the estimated $16.2 billion total budget unveiled separately by each of the countries on 14 June to finance both recurrent and development expenditure for the fiscal year 2012/2013. The three countries, together with Kenya and Burundi, all member states of a regional trading bloc, East Africa Community, have signed an agreement binding their finance ministers to present in their respective parliaments the annual financial estimates on the same date.
