App Helping Figuring out Water Crisis

Maldivian Software Development Community Has Launched a Special Application to Aid Citizens of Male' as They Struggle with Day Three of Male' Water Crisis

The application designed by Kickstart is designed to provide information on water distribution outlets set up in the capital.

This includes both water distribution outlets set up by the government as well as private citizens.

The app will also provide information on when specific water distribution outlets run out of water.

According to Kickstart Developer Nasrulla Adnan (Nattu), the app would help ease people's struggle to obtain water as it would help prevent people waiting in line unnecessarily outside water distribution outlets that are out of water and redirect them instead to outlets where they would be able to obtain water - saving time and easing the burden somewhat.

"We are continuing to further develop this app. We are discussing with MNDF (Maldives National Defense Force) as well as other private parties to find ways to source data needed for the app," said Nattu.

The app can be used via Kickstart website, and is also compatible with Android mobile phones.

The fire which erupted in Generator Unit of water desalination company MWSC (Male' Water and Sewerage Company) has resulted in water being cut off to the entire capital city.

The government has set up 10 outlets in the capital to distribute bottled water rations during specified time periods. Businesses and private citizens have also stepped up in time of crisis to distribute bottled water, as well as rain water and desalinated water stored up to the general public.
