Bayer CropScience Opens $12M Agriculture Center

The $12 million facility in Shakopee will focus on cutting-edge technology linked to agriculture

Having been in Shakopee for the past 10 years, Bayer CropScience has expanded to a new $12 million, 137,000-square-foot facility in Shakopee’s Dean Lakes Business Park.

On July 9, Bayer celebrated the facility’s grand opening nearly a year after construction began in August last year.

The bright blue building is now home to about 50 employees and Bayer’s SeedGrowth Equipment Innovation Center, where Bayer designs and builds the machinery, technology and parts for direct on-seed growth and pest treatments for crops.

“Our processes allow us to use less chemicals, yielding better growth, for a safer and more efficient process,” said Bayer CropScience president and CEO Jim Blome.

Efficiency drives much of the innovation at Bayer. By utilizing technologies like laser cutting and 3D printing, the SeedGrowth Equipment Innovation Center can supply custom parts cheaply all around the world, sometimes as easily as sending an email, Blome said.
