Bilfinger doubles its water technology portfolio

German engineering concern Bilfinger will more than double the size of its water technology business after agreeing to acquire Johnson Screens from Weatherford International.

The €160 million-a-year Johnson Screens business, which supplies industrial filters and water well screens, was picked up by Weatherford from Vivendi Environnement in 2001 for $110 million, and has enjoyed recent success supplying passive intake screens for the 100,000m³/d Nemmeli desalination plant in India and the 125,000m³/d Gold Coast desalination plant in Australia.
