This is going to become a much more widespread problem as long as Drinking Water Utilities do not clean the water to remove organic precursors and continue to sequester disinfection reactions by adding ammonia. Drinking Water systems across the country are suffering from nitrification and massive biofilm colonies caused by the the switch to chloramine as a result of compliance with the Stage I and Stage II Disinfection Byproducts Rule. Brain eating amoeba are the tip of the iceberg, Legionella and e-coli outbreaks are on the rise... and why, because rather then spend the money to do it right...politicians and investors went for the cheap-easy fix... and now it's time to pay the piper.
