Brazil Needs to Double Current Investments in Order to Reach Universal Drinking Water and Sanitation Coverage by 2033, According to José João Fonseca, President of Local Water UtilityÁguasGuariroba
Some 9bn-10bn reais/y are presently being invested in the sector nationwide, Edison Carlos, president of local NGO Instituto Trata Brasil,told BNamericas.
Fonseca, quoting a study by local think tank Fundação Getúlio Vargas, said that the sector needs to boost productivity 30%.
Boosting efficiency - includingcutting water losses- without sacrificing water quality requires continuous investments in advanced technology by financially healthy companies that have skilled labor to carry out long-term planning.
