CH2M Hill Team to Tackle Jaipur's Water Supply
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Business
CH2M HILL has agreed to offer technical and integrated water management leadership services to Jaipur city in Rajasthan, India, in co-ordination with Singapore Public Utilities Board (PUB) and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise
The team will provide technical and integrated water management services to the Rajasthan state government through the Public Health & Environment Department (PHED).
The ‘pink city' has experienced a rapid level of urbansation and population growth similar to other parts of India. In recent years, Jaipur has also become very reliant on groundwater resources. Over- extraction and gradual pollution of groundwater has led to water resources becoming threatened. Water supply is expected to become less reliable over the next decade.
To address these challenges, Jaipur has turned to CH2M Hill and to Singapore, which has tackled similar water scarcity issues through initiatives including a highly successful programme to recycle and reuse treated wastewater.
"Through this programme, Singapore's water management technology and project implementation experience will be shared with Rajasthan government and the PHED officials," said CH2M Hill vice president and lead for the programme, Vinod Singh. "CH2M Hill is pleased to help deliver this programme by providing full access to our thought and knowledge leaders in integrated water resource management, drinking water treatment quality, public/stakeholder engagement and advanced water recycling. The success and learnings of our similar projects for larger cities, such as Delhi and Bengaluru will be leveraged. This will benefit Jaipur city to help diversify its water resources portfolio."
