China's Water and Petrochemicals Industries Have Launched a Venture to Develop Forward Osmosis in Seawater Desalination
Beijing Woteer Water Technology Co., Ltd (Woteer), a subsidiary of CAMCE that is affiliated to SINOMACH, and Fushun Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals (FRIPP), affiliated to China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC), held an opening ceremony for the laboratory of industry wastewater zero liquid discharge (ZLD) and seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization at Changping district of Beijing.
Chief engineer of SINOMACH Chen Zhi and senior vice president and party leadership group member of SINOPEC Dai Houliang attended the ceremony and made important speeches. Leaders from SINOMACH, SINOPEC, CAMCE, FRIPP and Woteer attended the opening ceremony. Chairman Luo Yan presided over the ceremony.
The laboratory of industry wastewater ZLD and seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization was co-founded by Woteer and FRIPP. After nearly one year's elaborate preparation, it was completed in Changping district of Beijing. As the first forward osmosis technology laboratory of industry wastewater ZLD and seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization in China, the laboratory is equipped with world-class R&D team and the most advanced experimental instruments and equipments.
The experimental study of whole process and independent process of the industry wastewater ZLD and seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization can be realized and conducted in the laboratory.
Woteer has intensive customers from industrial fields of electric power, petrochemical, metallurgy, seawater desalination and etc. Meanwhile, Woteer has plenty of achievements in water treatment such as wastewater treatment up to standard, reclaimed water reuse treatment (ZLD), boiler feed water treatment and seawater desalination. For instance, the project of Near ZLD of Coal Chemical Wastewater of Inner Mongolia Yitai Chemical Group in Dalu Coal Chemical Industrial Park has successfully solved the technical problems for wastewater treatment of the coal chemical industrial park.
The project of Raw Water Pretreatment of 400 Thousand Ton Per Day for Xinyuan Aluminum Company in Chiping' will build the largest lime pretreatment system in China. The project of ZLD of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Wastewater for Huaneng Changxing Power Plant Build Large Shut Down Small Engineering is the first ZLD project to treat FGD wastewater based on forward osmosis technology in China.
The lime pretreatment technology which has a number of patents owned by Woteer has taken a leading position among competitors in China. In 2013, Woteer introduced the most cutting-edge technology - forward osmosis technology. The forward osmosis technology has strong competitiveness in the fields of brine concentration, seawater desalination and etc.
Based on the advanced lime pretreatment technology and forward osmosis technology, the laboratory is dedicated to provide reliable, advanced and cost effective ZLD solution for high COD wastewater, high salinity wastewater and high heavy metals wastewater from petrochemical, coal chemical, power industry, metallurgy and other industries. Meanwhile, the laboratory is dedicated to achieve the low energy consumption of seawater desalination and produce brine with salinity more than 22% based on the forward osmosis technology in order to realize the industrial application of concentrated seawater salt chemical industry and provide the economical solutions for seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization.
At present, Woteer has successfully established the first domestic forward osmosis membrane brine concentration (MBC) pilot system for seawater desalination application in Huang Hua, Hebei province. Undoubtedly, the MBC pilot system will provide reliable and detailed practical operation data for the experimental study of seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization.
FRIPP has intensive R&D experience in petrochemical industry and owns a number of special application technologies in petrochemical industry. FRIPP firstly invented the wastewater treatment technology of ‘oil separation - flotation - biochemical process', ‘single stripper column for acid water' and etc. These technologies have been widely used in wastewater treatment of petrochemical industry.
In 1984, after the approval of SINOPEC, FRIPP established the first domestic research institute of petrochemical environmental protection and took the responsibility of national environmental monitoring center of SINOPEC. Henceforth, the R&D ability of FRIPP entered a new era. More than 30 technologies have been developed by FRIPP, including wastewater treatment for refinery plants and biofuel plants, stripping technology of industrial acid water, oilfields wastewater treatment, aerobic/anaerobic wastewater treatment, refinery wastewater reuse, municipal wastewater reuse for petrochemical enterprises and etc.
