According to TechSci Research report "China Water Purifiers Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2020," the market for water purifiers in China is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of over 25% during 2015-20.
The majority of the water supplied by municipal authorities in China does not meet the standards set by the local government bodies. Increasing public awareness about drinking water safety, lack of access to clean drinking water over the years and rising water pollution levels are driving demand for water purifiers in China.
On the basis of technology, water purifiers are segmented into RO, UV and gravity/offline water purifiers. Reverse Osmosis and UV purification are the two more prevalent technologies that account for a lion's share in China water purifiers market. Gravity water purifiers segment has also gained some ground over the last few years on account of low cost and maintenance factor.
However, high replacement frequency and limited removal efficiency have restricted the growth of this segment. Moreover, increasing industrial discharge, along with domestic sewerage discharge and a rise in disposable income of consumers are some of the leading factors that have led to the adoption of RO water purifiers to provide clean drinking water to people and are estimated to capture over 60% of water purifiers market in China by 2020.
