ClearPod a Solution for Septic System Performance

The ClearPod, developed by Island Water Technologies of Montague, Prince Edward Island, has been approved for use in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island as a drop-in retrofit solution for enhanced septic system performance

Septic systems, which treat wastewater for approximately 25% of households in the U.S. and Canada, typically fail after 20-30 years of operation, which amounts to approximately 1 million septic systems failing each year in the U.S. alone.

Septic system repair or replacement represents a significant cost burden for homeowners.

The ClearPod leverages an aerobic, fixed film treatment process that increases the performance of a septic system by reducing biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations in the wastewater.

Biochemical oxygen demand represents the amount of oxygen consumed by microbes eating contaminants in the wastewater. The more BOD exists, the more the contaminants have to flourish and feed microbes.

Total suspended solids (TSS) refers to just the amount of stuff floating in the wastewater. Measurement of the reduction of these two factors is key to determining the health of a septic system.

Island Water Technologies has also been selected to participate in the Fall 2015 cohort of the Ecofuel Accelerator program in Montreal, to further develop modular, self-cleaning and self-regulating wastewater treatment technologies for off-grid domestic or industrial uses, including military bases, mining facilities or remote communities.
