Laura, It seems to me that perhaps the clearing of the water when they got the Sewer Treatment plants in NYC had to greatly improve the Sun's disinfection even more...My son was working just south -at the Jersey Shore as an ocean lifeguard and mentioned to me how clear the water suddenly got. From the lifeguard chair, the quantities of visible fish became immediately. They could see what people always feared very clearly so I would think that: 1) With less turbidity, pathogen access is increased. 2) With the number of pathogenic organisms greatly reduced by the now working Wastewater Treatment Plants, I believe it should improve cleanse the water tremendously improve.
