Companies with Clean Water Initiatives

How three companies - Wine to Water, Three Avacados, and Do Amore - are helping the clean water initiative
1. Wine To Water
The Wine To Water website explains, "Wine symbolizes wealth, celebration and community in Western culture." Juxtapose this symbol of opulence with the fact that globally, nearly 2.5 billion people lack access to sufficient sanitation, and the basis behind Wine To Water's mission becomes clear: For each bottle of wine the company sells, it donates clean water to a recipient in need for one calendar year.
There are three ways to support the organization: donating money, volunteering for it or starting your own campaign to raise awareness and donations for the cause.
2. Three Avocados
Three Avocados, a non-profit coffee company, has similar goals for making a global impact: the organization donates 100% of its profits to clean drinking water and education efforts in Uganda and Nicaragua.
Extra effort is taken to ensure a sustainable product. The organization, though small, leverages relationships with farmers in the U.S. and Nicaragua to ensure a sustainable, ethical supply chain, and looks for certifications such as the Rain Forest Alliance and Organic Certifications.
To date, Three Avocados has impacted more than 20,000 lives through its coffee sales and clean water initiatives. Learn more about how you can make a difference here.
3. Do Amore engagement rings
Few things connote luxury like diamonds, and few occasions are as memorable as marriage proposals. Do Amore, a company that sells conflict-free engagement rings and donates a portion of proceeds to provide clean drinking water to those in need, adds another layer of meaning onto this already-cherished occasion.
Founder Krish Himmatramka knew early on in life that he wanted to create a company that would help tackle the world's water crisis. "I had decided that one day I would make a water organization that drilled water wells all over the world," he tells Mashable . "When the time came though, I learned that there were already many organizations that did this, and some that did a great job at it. So instead of just reinventing the wheel, I thought to create a completely new source of capital for water access infrastructure." He figured if he could find a product with a high enough profit margin and volume, he could make a real impact. "Engagement rings and wedding rings were the perfect product. I knew that the industry could use change; products that symbolize love shouldn’t come with questions of ethics."
Do Amore works closely with charity: water and Water.org to locate projects to fund. "Once we are aware of an opportunity and know how many people that project will serve, we pair together sales that we recently made and fund the entire water project," says Himmatramka. "Every purchased ring gives two people access to clean water, so if a community well is going to serve 100 people, then we would pair together 50 ring sales to fund that project."
Once the well is constructed, Do Amore sends customers the exact GPS coordinates of the project they've helped sponsor, along with a picture of the well as a reminder of the lives they've touched.
