Knutson Construction Services Inc. of Minneapolis Was the Lowest Bidder, at $52.5 Million, for the Construction of Ames' New 15-million-gallon-per-day Water Treatment Facility
The bids were due by 2 p.m. Wednesday, at which time the envelopes they came in were unsealed in City Hall's council chambers.
Knutson was one of four companies that submitted bids for the project, which the city has planned to have completed by the end of the 2016-17 fiscal year.
In 2009, the City Council agreed to move ahead with the project because of an assessment of the existing plant that was conducted after concerns were raised about its structural integrity and the future need for greater capacity.
The assessment found structural problems and identified modifications needed to comply with Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
The four bids will be reported to the council at its next meeting on Oct. 14. If Knutson's paperwork appears to be in line, a recommendation to work with the company might also be made then, according to Karen Server, city purchasing manager.
After a recommendation is made, the recommended contractor would submit any additional paperwork needed before the council makes a decision on awarding a contract for construction at a subsequent meeting.
