Cundinamarca launches tender for US$335mn El Salitre plant consultancy

Colombia's Cundinamarca autonomous corporation (CAR) has called for expression of interest for a consultancy contract to monitor the execution of aUS$335mn upgradeof Bogotá's El Salitre wastewater treatment plant.
The consultancy work entails monitoring the whole project development, from design to construction and operations.
CAR is currently in the process of selecting the major contractor for the turnkey project, which will expand the primary treatment capacity of the plant - the only facility of its kind currently active in the city - to 7.1m3/s from current 4m3/s and upgrade it using activated sludge technology.
Eight consortiums areprequalifiedfor the work, but a final decision is still pending.
The project forms part of a broader US$487mn program to overhaul the Bogotá river basin. Beyond the El Salitre plant upgrade, the plan entails flood control and river restoration works for another US$140mn, while technical and administrative costs represent the remaining US$12mn.
