While the majority of humans make their call of nature in a bog-standard (no pun intended) bathroom, some innovative WCs in awe-inspiring locations perfectly complement their environment.
From desert huts made from palm fronds, to a cistern hanging off a rock in British Columbia that is powered by the moon, Toilets: A Spotter's Guide, by Lonely Planet, reveals more than 100 of the wackiest loos around the globe.
The book says: 'The lavatory is a great leveller – everyone feels the call of nature, every day – but, like any common species, being ubiquitous doesn't make it uniform.
'Around the planet, toilets have followed various evolutionary pathways to best suit their environment.'
