Although leachate have a lot of contaminants such as organics, suspended solids, Nitrogen, heavy metals and others, today exist a good practice in treatment of those components with process like those detailed in the article. The main problem not mentioned above is the dissolved solids content such as Chlorides, sulphates, etc. The treatment of those components requiere to use membrane technology (RO or NF) that produce a brine that must be disposed too, and can not be returned to the landfill to avoid super-concentration of salts in the Leachate.
