Very good comments and insights on sources on energy transition in future. However, I rather disagree with the food-energy-water linkages that he mentioned. With the availability of cheaper energy sources, farmers are going to abstract more ground water. This would create more constraints on dwindling water resources.

ground water, of course it depends, is dried up. no matter how much energy or oil you got, it does not matter, in many parts of the world. Simply not available. http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2015/06/earth-running-out-water-aquifiers/396152/
