ENGINEER EXPLAINS WASTEWATER TREATMENT, COLLECTION SYSTEM PLAN
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Case Studies
Rich Rhodes, of Rhodes Engineering, was at the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, November 12, and explained the entire Marshall Junction Development Preliminary Wastewater Treatment and Collection System Plan.
Rhodes, who has been the county’s engineer since 2000, explains there are forced mains, lift stations and lagoons involved.
Rhodes presented some preliminary costs for construction only for three different wastewater systems. The BiO2 System has an estimated total construction cost of $1,295,581, with other added costs (design engineering, construction admin. and construction observation services and Geotechnical) , increasing the total cost to $1,457,481. The SAGR System has an initial cost of $931,390, with additional costs raising the overall total to $1,125,690. The Addigest System has an initial cost of $801,390, with additional costs raising the price tag to $907,990.
Rhodes says from the information he has right now, he is leaning toward the SAGR System. But that could change.
Rhodes says each system has positives and negatives. He has toured a BiO2 System that is in operation in Otterville. He says he needs to tour the SAGR and Addigest systems in area cities, though. He says Marshall Municipal Utilities’ General Manager Jeff Bergstrom wants to go with him to see the positives and negatives of each.
Rhodes said each system must be expanded if demand reaches more than 25,000 gallons per day. But he thinks this is a good system starting point because it is unknown how long it will take the demand to be more than 25,000 gallons per day.
Rhodes said the project will formally be put out for bid in the next few months, and they may include more than these three options. He said after a decision is made on which bid is best, he expects construction to begin sometime next summer.
