Free Chlorination Systems to Antigua

Antigua Public Utilities Authority have received three chlorination systems donated by Severn Trent Services after Hurricane Gonzalo caused extensive damage to the island

Severn Trent Services, a leading global supplier of water and wastewater treatment solutions, has donated three Capital Controls® Series 480 all-vacuum gas feeders and ejectors to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA). The Island of Antigua, the main island of the eastern Caribbean country of Antigua and Barbuda, was ravaged by Hurricane Gonzalo on October 13.

The storm caused an estimated $12-18 million in damage to residential housing, created an island-wide power outage and damaged the APUA water treatment plant's disinfection system. The gas feed equipment, which disinfects drinking water, is being used by the APUA to chlorinate the island's drinking water supply.

"The Antigua Public Utilities Authority as a whole and its Water Business Unit in particular would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Severn Trent for their timely donation of several chlorinators following the passage of Hurricane Gonzalo," said Ivan Rodrigues, water manager for the Authority. "Maintaining a consistent supply of potable water to our consumers was indeed a challenge following the hurricane, and the donated chlorinators enabled us to ensure that this was possible."

"The damage and disruption caused by Hurricane Gonzalo was extensive," said William Stimeling, senior product manager, disinfection for Severn Trent Services. "We were happy to help the island get back on its feet with equipment that made their water safe to drink."
