Generating Renewable Energy from Existing Water Pipelines | Gregg Semler
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Business
InPipe Energy is a renewable energy and smart water technology company focused on generating low cost, clean electricity from the flow of water in existing and new gravity-fed water pipelines to improve energy and water security in cities and communities around the world. The problem, and the opportunity, is excess pressure in water systems.
Water moving through distribution pipelines is under pressure, which must be adjusted and controlled at each point of delivery. InPipe Energy is developing a first of its kind product, the In-PRV, pressure recovery valve that combines a cutting-edge pressure control system with an efficient in-line hydro technology that can be used can be dispatched to protect critical infrastructure—such as communications, public safety, and medical facilities—during severe weather, seismic activity, or other potentially harmful events.
