Water Partnership Summit Will be Held in Kochi on October 6

Aimed at developing an integrated master plan for better utilisation of water resources in the state and ensuring water security in cities, it is being jointly organised by SCMS School of Engineering and Technology and Kochi Corporation.

GWP is a consortium of 350 German companies working on various aspects of water management technologies.

The summit will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and will have panel discussions on industry-academia partnership on solving water issues by leveraging technological advantages in both countries.

The summit will also bring out a water policy for Kochi. The draft water policy of the Corporation will be rolled out within a few months, making Kochi the first local self-government in the country to make a local water policy.

Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany said the draft policy will incorporate suggestions from the idea exchanges at the summit. Representatives of Indian and German universities, Water Authority officials and parties concerned with water distribution network in the state will attend . The summit will also delve into the scope of conducting a water audit in Kochi, said Chammany in a press meet on Thursday.

Three panel discussions will be held as part of the summit at Taj Gateway. Protection of local water bodies, monitoring of domestic water supply quality and industrial water and waste water treatment will be discussed.
