GHANA Water Company Limited (GWCL) said the introduction of the prepaid metering system would curtail the commercial and physical losses incurred by the company.
The GWCL recently announced a decision to introduce pre-paid metering system by the end of this year.
According to the GWCL, a pilot project to test the system would soon take off in some parts of Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda, said a pre-paid water system was one of the most effective and efficient ways of getting revenue to make commercial state-owned enterprises viable.
He said this would enable the Ministry secure loans with its own resources without having to rely on government.
Dauda also stressed the need for full support of the general public for the project to be successful.
He therefore tasked the stated-owned GWCL to undertake sensitization programmes towards full implementation of the initiative.
