Govt to file report on groundwater in India

The Haryana government will file its report on illegal groundwater extraction for construction in Gurgaon in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today (Tues. Aug.21). According to a draft reply prepared by the authorities, which HT has accessed, the District Town and Country Planning department (DTCP) has claimed to have inspected all the construction sites under its jurisdiction of private builder areas and have identified 162 illegal borewells at about 80 sites.
The government will also submit that show cause notices have been issued by the DTCP to the colonisers as to why their licenses should not be cancelled.
According to an estimate, there are around 20,000 illegal borewells in Gurgaon.
