Habtoor Leighton Group Wins $608 m Qatar Reservoir Contract

Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG), a subsidiary of global contractor Leighton Holdings has secured a QR2.22bn ($608m) reservoir contract from KAHRAMAA, Qatar's General Electricity and Water Corporation
Operating as Leighton Contracting (Qatar) WLL, HLG will be responsible for the construction of Mega Reservoir Primary Reservoir and Pumping Stations (PRPS) 3 for the 100ha PRPS facility at Rawdat Rashed.
Under the terms of the contract, the company will build, test and commission five reservoirs, as well as pumping stations, pipe work and mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, architectural and external work.
With a capacity of 100 million gallons each, the reservoirs are claimed to be the largest reinforced concrete reservoirs in the world.
According to HLG, the latest contract is the seventh one awarded by KAHRAMAA.
HLG won a contract in 2009 to build the Duhail and Umm Qarn reservoirs.
The recent contracts by KAHRAMAA were for the construction of pipelines for Doha's mega reservoir in 2014 Central Workshop with a revenue of QR351m ($96m).
HLG CEO and managing director José López-Monís said the mega reservoir project is aligned with the company's core capabilities.
López-Monís said: "Qatar is a very important market for HLG.
