Singapore International Water Week 2012, we interviewed Amit Sengupta, Executive Director Corporate Strategy, VA TECH WABAG

"I take care of our companies corporate strategies, global corporate marketing, mergers and acquisitions. I have to keep track of events, whatever is happening in the world market, water sector, about companies and how they are performing, whether there could be a synergies and joining hands with them, and charting out the strategies for our company in India and the rest of the world. At present we are very bullish about India because we have just finished our five year plan, and in the new five year plan, we have massive outlay in water, waste water, and network sector...to provide safe water for all. It's in billions of dollars."

"Another market we are very enthusiastic about is Turkey, where we have opened our office. Already we have had success in Turkey. We've booked our first order, booked a maintenance order, and many other orders are in the pipeline. We are again focusing on Eastern Europe, quite successful in Romania, and from there we are going to other Eastern European markets."

"Apart from India, we are doing some funded projects in Sri Lanka, which is also a promising market for us. In China, WABAG was one of the leaders seven years back, riding upon the European government and Austrian government soft loan. Then things went down, it is picking up again now. We have opened up a wholly owned subsidiary in China and we are going to go big in China."
