The Seawater Rack, which is made of polyethylene and pipelines, has been manufactured by GF Piping Systems. Festo was responsible for offering the automation technology for the desalination plant.
The membrane based test results were derived through a modified seawater desalination process which involved flocculation processes.
Besides lowering the number of chemicals used to only two, the process proved to be economical and required less energy for the purification process.
Water derived through the new process contains less contaminants as compared to conventional methods. The process can also be implemented for water sources affected by algal bloom.
