Landis+Gyr and Iota claim the leak detection technology will help fix leaks before they cause disruptions and reduce non-revenue water losses, which saves money and conserves resources.
The technology will give utilities a better understanding of asset health
Landis+Gyr, an integrated energy management solutions provider for utilities, has partnered with Iota, the commercial arm of South East Water, to offer a network leak detection sensor, to help water utilities in Australia and New Zealand to reduce non-revenue losses.

South East Water, which developed a network leak detection technology called Sotto, has an installed base of 5,000 of Landis+Gyr’s smart water meters integrated with leak detection sensors, installed across its network in Melbourne.

Digital water transition

Landis+Gyr has been collaborating with Iota and South East Water for several years to elevate digital water transition efforts.

“This technology will be a game-changer for our network. Access to real-time network visibility will enable us to gain a better understanding of asset health and inform our maintenance schedules and planning process,” said Andrew Forster-Knight, general manager digital utility at South East Water.

Combining Iota’s expertise with Landis+Gyr’s technology in smart metering, grid edge intelligence and smart infrastructure, including experience in network sensors, the companies claim leak detection technology will enable smarter and sustainable water management solutions for utilities and their customers.

The sensor is integrated into Landis+Gyr’s W350 ultrasonic and NB IoT water meter, detecting network leaks in a radius of up to 80 metres.
