Meet Winners of the SIWW’s 2018 TechXchange Forum!

Three companies received awards at the SIWW’s 2018 TechXchange forum. Find out more about the winners!

After a day of pitches, Singapore-based AeroLion Technologies and New Zealand-headquartered Aquafortus won the Rising Star awards based on delegates’ votes. The former specialises in small unmanned aircraft for pipeline inspections and other uses, while the latter created technology that turns high salinity wastewater into dry mineral salts and clean water.

ROTEC, an Israeli firm, was awarded the Most Valuable Technology prize for presenting the best business case and technical merits for its flow reversal system to enhance the recovery of reverse osmosis membranes.

AeroLion Technologies

AeroLion  are a spin-out from the Unmanned Systems Research Group of the National University of Singapore. They specialize in UAV autonomy and navigation in both indoor and outdoor cluttered environment.  

Their main directions include autonomous navigation of unmanned rotorcraft systems, design of unconventional aircrafts, and to provide solutions with intelligent UAVs for a wide range of real-life applications. Their solutions allow intuitive interactions between UAVs and users to precisely navigate and continuously broadcast useful information to the users.

Aquafortus

New Zealand-headquartered Aquafortus develops and commercialises a novel and proprietary zero liquid discharge technology. The team at Aquafortus are high calibre, global experts working to bring the most advanced water recovery technologies to the world.

Aquafortus develops and holds multiple patents on non-thermal, continuous and re-generable ZLD technology. The Aquafortus ABXTM system is a novel liquid-to-liquid crystallizer that promotes the formation of salt crystals via a proprietary direct contact crystallization process using Aquafortus’ patented solutions. The ABXTM system efficiently reduces high TDS brines to salt and produces only clean water. 

The Aquafortus ABXTM system works by a two-stage solvent exchange process with the patented “Absorbent” acting as a transfer medium for water. When wastewater brine contacts the absorbent, salts from the wastewater brine instantly crystallize. The “Regenerant” then regenerates the absorbent for continuous reuse in the system.

ROTEC

ROTEC Ltd., established in Feb. 2009, develops novel and breakthrough technologies for sensing, monitoring, and prevention of mineral scaling on the surface of membranes and pipes in the water treatment industry.

Implementing scaling prevention technology in membrane-base desalination plants will result in increasing the process recovery rate, thus dramatically reducing brine volumes requiring disposal, minimizing anti-scalants consumption, and significantly reducing the costs of desalinated water.

Applying scale sensing technologies in desalination plants and industrial water treatment facilities, will enable better process control and real time basis early warning of failures in production. Company developed products can also be used as important decision support tools for the developing field of IT (Information Technology) network or "smart grid" system used for smart control of water systems.
