Melbourne Water customers will pay up to $176mio for test desal water

The state government has ordered no water from the plant for the 2012/13 financial year. But Melbourne Water must take and pay for water produced during the commissioning and testing phase of the plant under the contract signed by the former Labor government with AquaSure. The delayed testing phase of the $5.7 billion plant is expected to run from November until February next year. Up to 40 gigalitres of water will be desalinated during commissioning and testing and will cost Melbourne Water about $176 million, which it will pass on to customers. Read more: http://j.mp/IbWHJG
