IDE Technologies Named on MIT Technology Review's Annual 50 Smartest Companies List for Second Consecutive Year
IDE Technologies, world leader in water treatment solutions, has been named No. 19 on MIT Technology Review's 2016 list of 50 Smartest Companies. This achievement marks IDE's second consecutive year to be ranked amongst the top 20 companies and further emphasizes its expertise in the water solutions industry. To make the list, a company must have truly innovative technology and a business model that is both practical and ambitious, with the result that it has set the agenda in its field during the past 12 months.
IDE Technologies was recognized this year for its work reactivating the desalination plant in Santa Barbara, California. IDE's desalination technology extracts salt from seawater to provide potable water to areas suffering from water scarcity and drought conditions. Across the globe, 700 million people do not have access to enough clean water, and that number is expected to explode to 1.8 billion by 2025. By October 2016, IDE will be producing 30 percent of Santa Barbara's water. IDE has built and operates other plants around the world including the world's largest desalination plant in Sorek, Israel -- which gained IDE recognition on last year's 50 Smartest Companies List.
Jason Pontin, publisher and editor in chief, states, "Each year we identify 50 companies that are 'smart' in the way they create new opportunities. Some of this year's stars are large companies that are using digital technologies to redefine industries, while others wrestle with technological changes. Also on the list are ambitious startups looking to make their mark in an existing marketplace or create a new market entirely."
"We are honored to be listed among some of the greatest innovators of our time for a second year," said Avshalom Felber, CEO and president of IDE Technologies. "Our team is continuously pushing the next wave of innovation in water treatment solutions and we are pleased with the partners and customers we have worked with to provide the high-quality and sustainable water solutions. With current weather conditions, the demand for clean water continues to grow and desalination offers a reliable and economical solution to address these needs."
The list is included in MIT Technology Review's annual business issue, which is available online now at www.technologyreview.com and on newsstands worldwide on July 5, 2016.
