Hopewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility in Hopewell Will be Able to Lower itsTotal NitrogenWaste Load
With a new system that combines a moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) with a dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, the Hopewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility in Hopewell, Va. will be able to lower itstotal nitrogen(TN) waste load while also accomplishing compliance with local regulations.
The Hopewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility receives 80 percent of its wastewater from industry which contains toxins to ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOBs) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOBs), both of which are responsible for traditionalnitrification/denitrificationprocess of removing nitrogen from wastewater.
The new system was tested over a six-month period before the treatment facility made the decision to have it installed. The project is now underway with a completion date set for 2016.
