New Delhi Upgrading Meters

New Delhi Will Upgrade the Water and Power Metering Systems to Radio Frequency-enabled Meters So Readings Can Be Automatically Updated

As part of its smart city project, New Delhi Municipal Council has decided to upgrade the existing metering system for electricity and water connections. The civic agency will install radio frequency meters so that meter readings can be automatically updated. The pilot project will be implemented in Connaught Place.

Now, the civic agency plans to install radio frequency-enabled electricity meters. Officials say, now the meter reading will automatically get updated in their system. "Our staff will go to a particular building with a handheld device. Data from all the radio frequency devices within its range will automatically get transferred. There are several highrises in and around CP and getting meter readings is a cumbersome task. Now, it will become hassle-free,'' said an official.

At present, NDMC staff has to actually go and check the reading of all the electricity meters installed in NDMC area. Officials say it takes at least two-three months to collate data and issue bills.
