New Mobile App Detects Clean Beaches

San Francisco Water Officials Have Launched a Mobile App to Help Swimmers Find the Cleanest Beaches
The app,SF Beachesavailable for free on iPhones and Android phones, provides real-time info on water quality at 14 bay and ocean sites, including Ocean Beach, Baker Beach and Windsurfer Circle.
"By the time you get to the beach and you see a sign indicating that water quality is not OK, it's too late," said Jean Walsh, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. "This is a simple little app, but it's helpful."
Several apps already help beach-goers make sure water is clean. Heal the Bay'sBeach Report Cardapp and the Natural Resource Defense Council'sTesting the Watersmobile site, for example, offer lots of info on water quality.
