Nobel Prize for porous materials relevant to the water sector

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous, crystalline materials composed of metal ions and organic linkers. These molecular storage boxes can capture substances from water and extract water from the air. The trio that laid the scientific foundation for MOFs, was awarded with the Nobel Prize.
