Oasys Water Advances in China
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Business
US-based forward osmosis specialist, Oasys Water, has unveiled its latest advance in its bid to expand in China with its partner in the region, Beijing Woteer
The planned wastewater treatment system will desalinate up to 650 m3/day of the FGD wastewater for reuse. Changxing is one of the Huaneng Group's 85 thermal and hydropower plants, making it a promising model to showcase Oasys Water's unparalleled water reuse solutions for China's growing power market. The technology will be deployed to Zhejiang province in early 2015.
According to the latest report from GlobalData, the global FGD market is anticipated to grow by nearly 30% in the coming years as regulations around sulphur emissions are tightened due to increasing air quality concerns, especially in developing nations. The market experiencing the fastest growth in FGD is China, which currently has more coal-fired power plants than the United States, Europe, and India combined, as well as newly implemented nationwide restrictions on sulphur emissions.
"Being selected as part of the Changxing Power Plant ZLD project being developed with Beijing Woteer is an important milestone for Oasys Water. The win marks the first of many potential ZLD projects for our company, it highlights Oasys' growth and momentum in the Asia-Pacific region and it also underscores the successful commercialization of Forward Osmosis technology," said Jim Matheson, president and CEO of Oasys Water."Applications requiring ZLD and water reuse will become a growing global priority due to the combination of dwindling freshwater resources, the increasing population and industrial requirements for freshwater. At Oasys, our team is committed to delivering innovative technologies that purify the world's most toxic waters to help water-strained communities worldwide, and we look forward to celebrating future milestones that highlight our continued growth and success in achieving this goal."
In addition to accelerating commercialization of Forward Osmosis in the power industry, Oasys Water has secured various projects in the oil and gas industry fulfilling the company's mission to deliver innovative technology to clean the world's most difficult waters. The company has also been recognized globally as an emerging leader among water treatment technologies. In April, Oasys Water was named the2014 Water Technology Company of the Yearby Global Water Intelligence and aBloomberg New Energy Finance Pioneer. Oasys was also honored as aWorld Economic Forum 2014 Technology Pioneer.
