Company to Start Using Recycled Water Across the Majority of its Site, a Move that Will Save up to 2.3 Billion Litres of Drinking Water a Year
Orica Kooragang Island (KI) will today start using recycled water across the majority of its site, a move that will save the Hunter Region up to 2.3 billion litres of drinking water a year.
The recycled water will be delivered via an 8km pipeline from Hunter Water's new plant at Mayfield.
The switch will see Orica move from the largest consumer of drinking water in the region to the 19th largest consumer, a reduction that equates to around 12,000 homes annually.
General Manager of Orica Kooragang Island, Greg Holmes, said the landmark agreement will help secure future water resources for the Hunter.
"Orica believes that responsible corporate practices such as this will not only enhance the company's performance but also benefit our customers and our community.
