Our Future Water, founded by Robert C. Brears, Author of Urban Water Security (Wiley) and Founder of Our Future Water, Mitidaption, and Mark and Focus, created Young Water Leaders in September 2017 to connect current leaders with future leaders.
This is Young Water Leaders’ first global event that brings current leaders and future leaders together to build a water-secure world.
Young Water Leaders Berlin involves an array of over 15 interdisciplinary national and international speakers addressing how we can achieve water security.

Dr. Dionysia Avgerinopoulou
Vice Chair of Steering Committee Global Water Partnership
Dr. Avgerinopoulou is a politician in environmental matters, a specialized attorney in International, Environmental and Sustainable Development Law, and the recipient of the Green Star Award awarded by UNEP, OCHA, and Green Cross International for her leadership in prevention, preparedness and response to environmental emergencies. As a Member of the Hellenic Parliament, she has held the positions of the Chair of the Special Standing Committee on Environmental Protection and the Subcommittee of the Water Resources of the Hellenic Parliament, as well as the Chair of the Permanent Standing Committee of National Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament. She is currently the Chair of the Circle of the Mediterranean Parliamentarians of Sustainable Development (COMPSUD), the Director of the European Institute of Law, Science and Technology (IELST).*
Rose Osinde Alabaster
Water, Sanitation Policy & Environmental Governance Advisor
A water and sanitation governance, policy and human rights in development expert, with close to 20 years of global experience working with key development partners including the European Commission Delegation in Kenya and Somalia; the African Development Bank; and with development organizations including GIZ, WaterAid, SIWI, Sweden, ActionAid Kenya, and World Vision Kenya.
Uwe G. Becking
Director IBM Germany, Head of Strategic Business Development Digitalisation Public Sector
Uwe is Head of Strategic Business Development in the Public Sector Digitalisation area in IBM Germany and previously with worldwide IBM responsibility for Labour, Employability and Welfare including strategic initiatives, developments and emerging trends. Before he was 9 years as an executive civil servant in the Federal Agency of Employment (BA) in Germany in the Nuremberg headquarters, Uwe was active part of their transformation with the strategic implementation of the ‘Agenda 2010’ and ‘Hartz-Laws’ projects. In this reform it comprised different engagements like IT Strategy, restructuring new German social basic security (SGB II) and BA strategy, ERP/ SAP implementation and “Virtual Labour Market – VAM”. Previously, Uwe gained extensive professional experience in a series of management positions in various industries.

Uwe Becking leitet die strategische Geschäftsentwicklung im Bereich Digitalisierung der Öffentlichen Verwaltung der IBM Deutschland und war vorher für IBM weltweit verantwortlich in strategischen Initiativen, Entwicklungen und Trends im Bereich Arbeit, Beschäftigungsfähigkeit und Soziales. Davor war er 9 Jahre im Management der Zentrale der Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA) in Nürnberg aktiv in deren Reform mit der strategischen Implementierung der von der Bundesregierung entwickelten Programme “Agenda 2010” und “Hartz-Gesetze“ tätig. In dieser Reform umfasste dies eine Reihe von Tätigkeiten in verschiedenen Bereichen wie IT Strategie, Neuordnung der Grundsicherung SGB II und BA Gesamtstrategie, ERP/ SAP Einführung, BA Finanzen und “Virtueller Arbeitsmarkt – VAM”. He is editor of the Climate Resilient Societies book series with Palgrave Macmillan. Achieved recognition of Green Cross as a stakeholder with respect to the French authorities, climate authorities (such as COP21 / COP22), and environmental authorities, local and governmental bodies.
Dr. Ina Keggenhoff

Ina Keggenhoff gained professional experience as a Project Director at German Water Partnership (GWP), as an official in the flood protection department at the State Office of Environment Brandenburg and as a research assistant and lecturer in the field of climate science and water management at Giessen University, the ITT Cologne and the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin. Ina completed her PhD thesis at Giessen University in 2015. Her research analysed changes, patterns and driving forces of temperature extremes over Georgia. Ina is active on the Young Water Leaders Network.

Martina Macpherson is a partner at Sustineri, an independent consulting firm specializing in Climate Risk and ESG / SDG advisory, research, products, investment content, and engagement services – with over 17 years of experience in consulting, asset management, banking and financial services. She is a writer, (academic) lecturer and presenter on sustainable investment and green finance themes and contributes regularly to industry and academic publications.
Piero Pelizzaro
Chief Resilience Officer Milan
Piero is the Chief Resilience Officer and the City Lead for the H2020 Lighthouse project Sharing Cities at the Municipality of Milan. He is an advisor of the Italian Ministry of Environment Land and Sea on Urban Adaptation Policy to Climate Change. In recent years was the Co-Founder of Climalia, specialised consulting company providing climate services in Italy, where he operates as Resilience Specialist. Piero was an Acclimatise Associate. Piero is a member of the European Commission Mayors Adapt Practitioners Work Group and Member of FiRe 2016 Implementation Working Group at Climate Policy Initiative. He is member of the Advisory Board of the EU FP7 Ramses Project that aims to structure a cost\benefit analysis methodology for Urban Adaptation Plans.
Dr. Bastian Piltz
Head of Business Development Germany, Isle Utilities
Bastian is passionate about the use of clean technologies for enhancing the integration of humans with natural water cycles. During his MSc in marine microbiology at the Max-Planck-Institute in Bremen, he studied the links between uncontrolled nutrient runoff and cyanobacterial blooms on a Caribbean coral reef. After gaining practical experience in new sanitation and decentralised systems at NIOO-KNAW and Metabolic in the Netherlands, he went on to develop a technology using microalgae to recover nutrients from human urine in his PhD at the University of Cologne. At Isle Utilities, he his now working on consulting projects and innovation networks to bridge the gap between new technologies and their commercial application in the water sector.

Dr. Anabel Ternès is an entrepreneur with a focus on health and sustainable lifestyle, a digitalization expert and author. She is managing partner of CoCarrier GmbH and HealthMedo GmbH. As Managing Director and professor for communication and e-business she heads the Institute for Sustainable Management (IISM). She is, among other social engagements, CEO of Get Your Wings, board member of NFTE Germany, advisory board member of INITIATIVE FÜR FRÜHE BILDUNG, Editorial Board Member of the Arabian Journal of Business and Management Review and mentor at StartupTEENS.
